A young boy accidentally takes home a friend’s schoolbook and, afraid of being punished by his teacher, journeys to his classmate’s village to return it. Along the way he encounters adults who alternately ignore, scold, or assist him. From this simple premise Abbas Kiarostami weaves a potent allegory on friendship, duty, and the importance of breaking the rules sometimes.
