Dance, Play and Feast your way at Nowruz: A Persian New Year!
A festive day awaits at our fifth annual Nowruz (Persian New Year) celebration. The festival coincides with the US debut of one of the world’s most iconic objects, the Cyrus Cylinder. Often referred to as the first “declaration of human rights,” the Cylinder is on loan to the Sackler from the British Museum.
The Nowruz celebration features entertaining and exciting programs for all ages—including “Haft Sin” table displays, "fire" jumping, a Nowruz memory photo booth, chess and backgammon games, Persian stories by Xanthe Gresham, performances by the Nomad Dancers, and live Persian music. Explore newly digitized photographs of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Iran by photographer Antoin Sevruguin, and participate in a variety of ImaginAsia family activities. Traditional Persian food by Moby Dick House of Kabob and special Nowruz cupcakes by Fraiche Cupcakery are available for purchase. The event is made possible by a generous grant from Jahangir and Eleanor Amuzegar.
