Biography:
Before the revolution of l979, Gholam Reza Afkhami was secretary general of Iran's National Committee for World Literacy Program (l975‑l979) and deputy minister of state, 1974-1975. From 1967 to 1979 he was professor of politics and until 1974 associate dean of the College of Economics and Political Science at the National University of Iran. He is author of several books and articles in Persian and English, including, in the United States, The Life and Times of the Shah, 1919-1980 (October 2008 by University of California Press, Berkeley), The Iranian Revolution: Thanatos on a National Scale (Middle East Institute, 1985). He directs the FIS Oral History Program, edits the Series on Iran's Economic and Social Development, and chairs the FIS Best Ph.D Dissertation on a Subject of Iranian Studies Award.
