Celebrate Persian New Year with a workshop with artist, Saya Behnam, Painting with Natural Colors on Saturday, March 13, 1–3 pm.
Celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year, at home in this art-making workshop. Guided by artist Saya Behnam, use natural pigments made from saffron, turmeric, and tea to paint decorative eggs and postcards with Persian motifs. This hands-on workshop is designed for ages sixteen and older. No art experience or specialized materials needed—we'll make our supplies during the workshop from items commonly found at home.
Sayeh (Saya) Behnam is an Iranian American artist based in northern Virginia who works with materials from nature, such as flowers, spices, teas, and minerals. She has recently led workshops at the United States Botanic Garden and the University of California, Berkeley.
One registration per household. A Zoom link and a list of suggested materials will be sent to registered participants 48–72 hours in advance of the workshop.
This program is part of the event series Nowruz: A Persian New Year Celebration and is made possible by the Jahangir and Eleanor Amuzegar Persian Cultural Celebrations Fund.
