he GMU Iranian Studies Group is pleased to announce "The Colorful Landscapes of Cyrus the Great: Technologies of Paint & Polychromy in the Palaces of Pasargadae, Iran", a lecture by Dr. Alex Nagel, the Assistant Curator of Ancient Near Eastern Art at the Smithsonian Institution's Sackler Gallery of Art.
Dr. Nagel's talk will focus on his research on the polychromy, or original color of the reliefs and sculptures of the ancient Achaemenid capital of Pasargadae (or Pasargad).
Alex Nagel is originally from Germany, he worked as an archaeologist in Greece and on determining the original colors of ancient Persepolis in modern Iran. In 2010, he received a PhD from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
