International Arts & Artists’ (IA&A) Hillyer Art Space, located at 9 Hillyer Court, NW, in Washington, D.C., is proud to present The Burden of Representation: Contemporary Iranian Photography, a group photography exhibition from six Tehran-based artists, co-curated by Maryam Ovissi and IA&A’s Hillyer Art Space. The exhibition opens Friday, November 7, 2008 with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring music by Brownrice Collective DJs Dan Cooper and Foday Kargbo. The Burden of Representation runs to Friday, December 21, 2008. IA&A’s Hillyer Art Space will host a special reception for the artists on Friday, December 5 from 6pm to 9pm. These artists are the first of four groups to be selected to participate in IA&A’s ArtBridge Program. Funded in part by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State, ArtBridge (pol-e honari, in Persian) is IA&A’s newest cultural exchange program designed to establish relationships and networking opportunities between American and Iranian artists and arts professionals. These early to mid-career photographers were chosen based on artistic excellence, and a demonstrated potential for future leadership in their local arts communities.
