Dir.: Abbas Kiarostami, Iran, 1992, 95 min., Persian with English subtitles
In 1990, the Koker region where Abbas Kiarostami filmed Where is the Friend’s Home? in 1987 was devastated by a massive earthquake. In this meta-fictional investigation of truth and representation, actors playing Kiarostami and his son return to Koker to track down the boys who starred in the previous film. Mixing fiction and reality, And Life Goes On is both a moving documentation of an area’s recovery from natural disaster and a powerful meditation on the nature of storytelling.
