This year’s festival features several Iranian filmmakers working abroad—from Tajikistan to France to Canada, and even our local Bethesda, Maryland. These artists show how Iranian cinema has truly become an international phenomenon, allowing them to work without the censorship restrictions of their home country while retaining the qualities that make Iranian cinema so compelling. Even the films made inside Iran share a surprising commitment to resisting the regime in whatever way they can by depicting hidden subcultures and exposing social injustices.
This festival is co-organized with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
