Schedule:
"Homework"
Sunday, February 9, 1:30 pm
In person: Godfrey Cheshire, author of "Conversations with Kiarostami". Books available for sale after the screening.
Kiarostami interviews children about their schoolwork and home situations—only to discover most parents are illiterate and the kids receive punishment rather than encouragement for their efforts.
"Close-up"
Sunday, February 9, 3:30 pm
In person: Godfrey Cheshire, author of "Conversations with Kiarostami". Books available for sale after the screening.
One of Kiarostami’s most radical, brilliant works, Close-up is a fiction-documentary hybrid based on a real-life event: a young man is arrested for impersonating filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf.
"Shirin"
Sunday, February 16, 1:30 pm
Kiarostami turns the camera on the audience as 110 women react to a stage adaptation of a famous, tragic twelfth-century Persian poem.
"Ten"
Sunday, February 16, 3:30 pm
Shooting entirely with two cameras fixed to a car’s dashboard, Kiarostami crafts a slice-of-life docufiction that reveals everyday interactions and probes the experiences of women in contemporary Iran.
"24 Frames"
Sunday, February 23, 1 pm
For what would prove to be his final film, Kiarostami reconstructed moments before and after a photograph is taken and digitally animated them into poignant studies in movement, perception, and time.
"Like Someone in Love"
Sunday, February 23, 3:30 pm
In this simple story of a growing bond between unlikely characters, Kiarostami constructs an enigmatic investigation of affection, desire, and the workings of the human heart.
