Although there might be some evidences of undermined religious beliefs among Iranian people especially among young generation but the religion is still one the most important factors forming the private and public life in middle-eastern countries in general and in Iran particularly. Just as example the last election showed that religious leader can effectively mobilize people toward voting in favor of a candidate. Therefore one can not properly analyze the state of affairs in this country without having a profound understanding of the characteristics of different Islamic approaches promoted by the intellectuals and followed by the ordinary people. Taking the discussed importance of religion into account, the motivation of this lecture is to answer the question of "Whether there is a unique understanding of Islam among Iranian people?". During the speech I will try to address that question through showing the diversity of Islamic-oriented groups in Iran and eventually giving a negative answer to the question. I hope the picture which I will draw can go beyond the stereo-types built mainly by the media.
