Prof. Hormoz Farhat, prominent Persian ethnomusicologist, composer and university lecturer will talk about on traditional elements in contemporary Persian music at Center for World Music, University of Illinois School of Music on Tue, 04/19/2011 at 4:30 PM.
Over the past 100 years, Persia has produced a sizable number of
composers who employ Western techniques of composition. At the same time, most of them also draw on Persian musical traditions, both the urban classical tradition and various forms of rural folk music. Some have also used Persian literary and epic sources as inspiration for dramatic music. This presentation by the distinguished Persian composer and scholar Prof. Hormoz Farhat will illuminate the integration of traditional and Western features in the work of contemporary Persian composers.
