Homayoun Shajarian (Iran):
Outstanding classical Persian music to words by poets such as Rumi, Bahar and Hafez, among others. Homayoun Shajarian, the son of Mohammed Reza Shajarian - one of Iran's greatest singers - ranks among the greats of Persian classical music. He is a singer and also plays the tombak (a Persian percussion instrument) and kamancheh (a Persian stringed instrument). For this performance he is joined by Saeed Farajpouri (kamancheh) and Hamid Motebassem (tar and setar).
Saeed Farajpouri is a composer and classical Persian musician from Kurdistan. He is a well-known and respected artist of many years' standing, both as a soloist and together with such groups as Sheya, Aref, Avat and Puyvar. He has been with the Dastan Ensemble since 2000. He teaches his instrument, the kamanche, at several of the leading schools of their kind: the Chavosh Cultural Center, the Center for Preservation of Music in Tehran, the Tehran Conservatory of Music and the Tehran University School of Music.
Hamid Motebassem is a composer and tar and setar player. He comes of a family of musicians in Mashad, Iran, and received his first music lessons from his father. He pursued further studies at the Conservatory of Persian Music, the Tehran School of Art and elsewhere. He founded the widely noticed Dastan Ensemble and was one of the founders and founder members both of the Aref Ensemble and of Ensemble Chakavak. He also has a large number of recording credits.
