Food for Thought is a monthly dinner that hopes to raise funds to support detained or recently settled asylum seekers through the celebration of food, culture and the sharing of stories. Every last Thursday of the month a new community will come together and cook for 40 guests in a welcoming, comfortable and friendly environment.
RRAN and Centre for Stories join together to make this night possible. The dinners recognise and pay refugee and asylum-seeker men and women for the skills they have cultivated in the home.
Food for thought offers an opportunity for people who have sought asylum in Australia to get involved in the community, learn some basic kitchen skills, gain some hospitality experience and meet good people in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
Mehdi will join us for our fourth dinner. Mehdi is a human rights activist and political blogger who was forced to flee Iran in search of safety. Upon reaching Australia, however, he was interned on Nauru. Join us as he shares stories from home and beyond, while we indulge in a feast of delicious Persian food.
We would love to see you there, and we appreciate your donation to help us along. If the cost of the ticket is stopping you from coming along, please email us and we'll do our best to reserve a seat for you.
Please support us and people who remain in immigration detention and be rewarded with great food, fantastic company and a lovely night out.
We hope to see you there!
