Building on the success of The Seattle-Havana Poster Show (2007-2008), curator Daniel R. Smith has gone half way around the world to unite the graphic design communities of Seattle and Tehran. Artists included range from Reza Abedini, a powerful figure in contemporary Iranian graphic design, to younger talents born since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. These Iranian designers' posters are paired with the work of Seattle designers, such as Robynne Raye of Modern Dog, Coby Schultz and Barry Ament of the Ames Bros and many more.
Daniel R. Smith is a Seattle-based artist and designer who has worked as a graphic designer and art director for firms including NBBJ Architecture, Starbucks Coffee and Experience Music Project. Mamoun Sakkal is an internationally recognized graphic designer, architect, artist and teacher who has exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
Posters selected from the full exhibit will rotate through all three Seattle Vérité Coffee locations. The Madrona show opens first, Sunday Sept. 7th.
