Opening Night Gala on May 17, 2018
Start the Festival right by attending the Opening Night Gala, the best party of the year, at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. The kick-off event is always a fabulous time, with hors d'oeuvres, desserts, and cocktails immediately following the screening.
For Iranian film lovers, in the running this year for the Grand Jury Prize is "Pig" by director, Mani Haghighi with Hasan Majuni, Leila Hatami, Leili Rashidi, Parinaz Izadyar.
Mani Haghighi, of the SIFF 2017 smash hit A Dragon Arrives, is back with Pig–SIFF 2018's smash hit-to-be. A serial killer is stalking directors in Tehran, decapitating them, and carving the word "pig" into their severed heads. This is alarming to Hasan, himself a director, albeit an out-of-work one, thanks to a government blacklist. He fears for his life and the lives of his friends. But as film luminaries go down one after another (including one much-regretted "Mani Haghighi"), Hasan starts to wonder, "Why not me? What have they got that I don't?" In fact, the killer's neglect occasions a massive crisis of self-doubt—Hasan has been reduced to making commercials for bug spray, and his actress girlfriend (Leila Hatami, A Separation) has just agreed to star in the latest film by his biggest rival. Hasan's mother reassures him that the killer's just saving the best for last, but when rumors start to circulate that he may himself be the killer, he's driven to take matters into his own hands. A strobe-lit, pop art-colored black comedy about artistic vanity run amok!
Performances scheduled June 1 through June 3 at Cinema Uptown and Kirkland Performance Center. Please check SIFF for updates and more information.
