In July 2015, Iran and the P5 +1 nations negotiated a historic agreement that opens the way for new era in US-Iran Relations. This agreement which restricts and monitors Iran's nuclear program paves the way for a new opportunity for diplomacy, cultural exchange and business and cultural engagement that has been stifled by four decades of animosity and mistrust between Iran and the United States. In the aftermath of the historic Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (signed between Iran and the permanent members of the United Nations) in July 2015, the prospect for normalizing relations for the first time in forty years presents both great opportunities and challenges. This interdisciplinary conference, "Engaging Iran" will present a wide variety of speakers from across academic disciplines such as humanities, business, political science, as well as from the private and public sector. This historic conference will include panels on "Humanities as a Window for Cultural Exchange," "Business, Technology and Investment in Iran," as well as panels on "NGOs." This conference will be hosted by San Jose State University Persian Studies with the support of the Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute.
Keynote Speaker on 10/20 - Professor Juan Cole, Professor of Middle East Studies and Author of Engaging the Muslim World
