The Eco-poetics of Sohrab Sepehri
Sohrab Sepehri is the best-selling contemporary Iranian poet. He is often referred to as a modern poet/painter. At the same time he is deeply rooted in Iranian contemplative tradition, influenced by Rumi, and Khayyam; as well as eastern traditions, such as Zen, Advaita Vedanta, and Taoism. His Hasht Ketab, particularly, “seday-e pa-ye ab”; and “hajme sabz”; is a lyrical ecocriticism, avant la lettre.
Dr. Davary will highlight Sepehri’s social awareness and poetic responsibility through reflecting on his mindfulness of nature, and his attention to the maintenance of harmonious relationships.
