About Sabahi:
Dara Sabahi was born in Tehran in 1958. His family came to Untied States for a better education in 1973. He completed high school in Los Angeles and continued to get a BS degree in Civil Engineering from UCLA
in 1981. He first joined JPL in 1989. From ’89 to 93. He worked on many Space Shuttle science payloads. In 1993 He joined the Mars Pathfinder (MPF) project as the Mechanical and system lead for Mars Entry, Descent and Landing (EDL). After the successful landing of MPF on July 4th 1997 he spent many years in developing spacecraft for landing on comets and bringing samples back. In 2000 he joined the MER project that developed the Spirit and Opportunity Rovers as the mechanical system architect. They both landed successfully in early 2004 and Opportunity has just passed its 10 th birthday for operating on Mars. In 2005 he joined the Phoenix project as the project chief engineer and EDL lead again. Phoenix landed in the North Polar Region of Mars on May 25th 2008. After Phoenix he joined the MSL program which developed the Curiosity Rover as the Integrated System Engineer Lead. Curiosity landed six months ago in the Gale crater and is operational. At this time he serves as the chief engineer for the JPL Engineering and Science Directorate.
