Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is delighted to host a series of distinguished scholars of Iranian culture during the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters, in addition to screening four Iranian films. This series is intended to provide an open forum for educated discussion about Iran, a nation that is much maligned by the media.
Introduction by Lucian Stone (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville)
Academy Award nominee Majid Majidi’s latest film follows Youssef, a forty-five year old blind man whose eyesight has been restored by a breakthrough surgical procedure. Consequently, Youssef suffers an existentialist crisis, questioning God, justice, and his lifelong relationships with family and friends, which were all predicated on his sightless perspective.
