The Iranian Studies Circle is an joint initiative by students and faculty to cultivate interest in studying Persianate culture, history, religion, and language. The Circle is a series of presentations by various lecturers followed by a student led discussion to enrich and inspire the learning of the contemporary and classical Persian-speaking world.
While most people equate Shiism with Iranian religion, and perceive it as a resistance to both Arabism and Sunnism, this talk will challenge that position by focusing on the diversity of Shiism, and Iranian religiosity, in both pre-modern and modern times.
Refreshments will be provided! Free and open to all! :)
