Join us for Mahsa Vahdat’s first performance in Sacramento accompanied by her husband, composer Atabak Elyasi. This will be a special evening in a unique space comprised of a social hour to meet Mahsa personally, as well as learn more about MAP and its’ amazing mission. There will be some light bites to enjoy and the opportunity to become familiar with some outstanding wines from Antiquite Midtown Winery, which is the in-house winery of our venue Antiquite Maison Privee. Mahsa will perform some Acapella songs and then she will be joined by Atabak Elyasi with Setar .
This is a special opportunity to hear Mahsa in an intimate, private space and become familiar with rich, meaningful persian poetry of our past that she will gracefully share with us.
Mahsa Vahdat is an award winning performer of Persian vocal art and a strong advocate of freedom of expression in music. Her career has given a deeper knowledge of Iranian poetry and music to large audiences in the world and has taken Persian poetry and music to new heights. She believes in creating a universal expression of music based on her traditional and regional musical roots. She and her sister, Marjan, have taken part in numerous world music festivals and concerts in countries around the world and have been performing as independent singers and musicians for nearly 3 decades.
Following the recording of Lullabies album from the Axis of Evil (2004), Mahsa and Marjan
started a long lasting collaboration with the Norwegian record label Kirkelig Kulturverksted (KKV). This led to a worldwide release of a series of award winning and critically acclaimed albums.
Mahsa and Marjan have worked closely with well known musicians in Iran and the world such as Kronos Quartet, Tord Gustavsen, Mighty Sam McClain, and Atabak Elyasi .
Mahsa graduated from music department of Tehran University of Arts.
Atabak Elyasi is an independent composer, arranger and poet. He studied composition at the music department of Tehran Arts University where he has been the head of composition department for 12 years.
He has been working with Mahsa and Marjan Vahdat for 20 years. They have had a long lasting musical cooperation during which he composed, wrote the lyrics, arranged, and played in some of their albums such as “I am Eve “, ”Songs from a Persian Garden”, "Twinkling of Hope”, and “Placeless” performed with the Kronos quartet .
Mahsa and Atabak have also developed a long and intense pedagogical experience in teaching classical Persian music for nearly 3 decades for Iranian as well as non-Iranian students and have led many projects with their students.
