About the artist: Born on 13 July, 1983 in Tehran, started his first experience of art with painting, he spent his childhood during the war of Iran-Iraq in 80’s. he started his first musical activities with playing piano at the age of 12 and after a year he switched to classical guitar. Mahan learned jazz music on his own by listening, transcribing, and analyzing the music of jazz legends like Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Clifford brown, John Coltrane and many more. He also started to play the Tar. The Iranian traditional music has had an indispensable role on how his character as a musician has shaped. He attended the jazz workshop of Vahag Hyrapetian in 2003 and formed his first Band as a Trio set up with Dara Daraeei on bass and Amin Taheri on Drums; Hamzeh Yeganeh a great Persian pianist and composer joined the band later. In 2008, Mahan Mirarab finished his studies in architecture in Tehran and moved to Vienna. There he organized many concerts and recorded his first Album, a combination of Persian folk and traditional music with jazz . His album, “The Persian Side of Jazz," was released in November 2010.
