Carpet weaving is an ancient art form closely associated with the Persian Empire which includes modern-day Iran. Iranian arts scholar and Persian rug practitioner Soude Dadras will introduce the history of carpet making in her home country and will lead students through the process of traditional carpet weaving. Students will learn basic knot tying of pile carpets, including the Gabbeh long-pile carpet, and will weave a very small Kilim, or smooth surface carpet.
