AKBAR ATRI: For his human rights activism, Mr. Atri has been imprisoned, fined and physically abused by pro-government militia in Iran. Mr. Atri is a founding member of Iranian Students for Democracy and Human Rights and has given speeches at universities, human rights organizations, and conferences worldwide about human rights. On March 2, 2006 he was invited to speak about human rights and democracy in Iran at a panel discussion organized at the U.S. Capitol.
MARIAM MEMARSADEGHI: Ms. Memarsadeghi advises human rights and democracy organizations internationally and is an outspoken advocate for women’s rights and civil liberties. She is an expert on free media and internet initiatives for repressive regime contexts and founded the bi-lingual web magazine Gozaar: A Journal on Democracy and Human Rights in Iran while serving as Senior Program Manager at Freedom House.
HASSAN DAI (HASSAN DAIOESLAM): Mr. Dai was born in Tehran in 1957 and entered the Polytechnic University of Tehran in 1974. He has been very active in the student movement before and after the Revolution. During the 1990s, he was active in the campaign for human rights and the defense of political prisoners. In 2001 he moved to United States and concentrated on political research. His reports and articles have been largely published by major Farsi websites and US journals such as American Thinker.
