Dr. Pardis Minuchehr is the Coordinator of Persian Studies and teaches Persian
language, literature and film courses at the University of Pennsylvania (Near Eastern Languages and Civilization Department). She received her Ph.D. from Columbia University in the City of New York, and has an M.A. from University of Massachusetts and a B.A from Allameh Tabatabi University in Tehran. Before joining the University of Pennsylvania she held faculty positions at various academic institutions in New York City, Berlin and Ankara, Turkey.
Her research focuses on the intellectual and cultural transformations of modern Iran, Voices of Dissent and Displacement in Iranian Cinema, Notions of Modernity in the Iranian Constitutional Revolution as well as Nizami Ganjawi’s Inter-textual Tropes. Her upcoming publications in the Journal of Iranian Studies and the Oxford University’s Constitutional Revolution conference proceedings examine the culture of writing in early twentieth century in Iran, the emergence of the first freedom of press law, and the evolution of an exile Persian press. Her recent publications include “The
Atabat and the Persian Constitutional Exile Press” in an edited volume by Robert Gleave on Religion in Qajar Iran
Dr. Minuchehr has recently been elected the President of the American Association of Teachers of Persian (AATP), a national organization devoted to the study of Persian language and culture.
