In this talk, Shahyar Ghanbari will explore the significance of Iranian New Wave songwriting within the context of contemporary Iranian intellectual history. Following a trajectory fro mthe emergence of the New Wave in Iranian songwriting in the late 60s until today, and by situating its position in relation to modern Persian literature, he discusses and re-defines the unique characteristics of this literary and musical movement and underlines its often overlooked influence on social and cultural life in Iran.
