Robert Browning Associates and Lotus Music & Dance present Sacred Trance Music of Kurdistan.
(Concert recording available November 7 at 8 PM to November 13 at 11 PM EST)
This ecstatic and trance-inducing concert of Kurdish music from western Iran brings together two of Iran's most renowned musicians: Ali Akbar Moradi, the extraordinary virtuoso of the tanbour, an ancient 2-stringed long-necked fretted lute traditionally used in religious ceremonies, and Pejman Hadadi, the innovative percussionist (tombak, daf) who has been a member of the Dastan Ensemble for over 20 years and collaborated with countless master musicians in Persian and world traditions. Their program features meditative improvisations based on the repertoire of the Yarsan people – followers of a mystical faith associated with Sufism, and the beauty and complexities of the art of this region.
We are grateful to the New York State Council for providing funds to pay the artists, but we need your help for promotional expenses and to build resources for future programming. Roulette has agreed to accept donations to RBA. We will share all contributions with Roulette, our presenting partner, to help pay for their loss of income from rentals over the past several months. PLEASE BE GENEROUS - HELP ARTISTS SURVIVE THROUGH THESE DIFFICULT TIMES! For donations, please go to top of homepage for Robert Browning Associates.
