Series on Asia Policy Options for the Next US Administration
By design or default, for nearly the past three decades, the US and Iran have pursued policies of hostility toward one another. The failure of these policies can be seen in the stalemate both governments have reached on virtually every issue; in the opportunities that have been missed to pursue common interests; and in the dangerous unpredictability of the future of the relationship. Change seems inevitable, but whether the change is in a positive or a negative direction remains to be determined.
Join us as the Asia Society brings together Frank G. Wisner, one of America’s most experienced diplomats, and renowned Iranian-American scholar Vali R. Nasr to explore the prospects for charting a new course in America’s troubled relationship with Iran.
Speakers:
Frank G. Wisner, Vice Chairman, External Affairs, American International Group; Former Under Secretary of Defense for Policy; Former US Ambassador to India, the Philippines and Egypt
Vali R. Nasr, Professor of International Politics, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University; Adjunct Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Studies, Council on Foreign Relations
Suzanne DiMaggio, Director, Asian Social Issues Program, Asia Society (moderator)
