For years, Iranian movies are known by dint of their presence in the most important festivals the world. Among all festivals, three of them has most important place; Cannes, Venice and Berlin Film Festival in which Iranian film would take pride to participate.
Among all Persian movies, only one of the participated in Venice festival! Wednesday, May 9th which was Vahid Jalilvand’s first movie made win the first price as director.
Wednesday, May 9th is a society genre film about the takes roots by a mistake in the newspaper add. The Venice Review by Hollywood reporter: “The humanism of the finest Iranian cinema shines through the clouds of sadness in Wednesday, May 9, which explores the suffering of the un-moneyed classes and a strange philanthropist who aims to help them… Here, it is the generous offer of a substantial sum that attracts a huge crowd of the afflicted. Though the stories are heartbreaking, strong acting relieves them of sentimentality.”
