This summer, the MEKIC art gallery has the immense privilege of inviting you on a fascinating foray into the artistic universe of Nazanin Afshar. Her Identity exhibition, consisting of 35 medium and large format drawings, incites viewers to explore a world that is difficult to perceive and understand: the world that each of us hides within ourselves.
Nazanin Afshar does not seek to redefine the notion of identity, which is the subject of a primordial philosophical question reaching back in time to the inscription "Know thyself" on the doors of the Temple of Delphi. She does, however, seek to understand the intimate identity of human beings, often veiled by a social identity based on belonging to a society, a culture, and a tradition.
The artist's drawings penetrate appearances to reach the core of identity linked to belonging to one's self. These works are a beautiful meditation on identity that emerges from the dialectic between the individual and society. A must-see exhibition!
