Following the Sephardic music, the Corsican polyphonies, the flamenco and songs of Anatolia, it is now the treasures of Klezmer music that Constantinople will help to reveal! Accompanied by two leading figures of new Klezmer music - the co-founders of the New York group Klezmatics, Frank London and Lorin Sklamberg - Constantinople will set the stage for a dynamic encounter between the Klezmer and Persian musical traditions. A rare opportunity to hear songs sung in Yiddish and Persian, intermingled with the explosive improvisations of the entire cast of musicians on stage.
During the Christmas season we invite you to attend a unique concert in which Constantinople will leave its mark on traditional mystic and sacred songs from the Middle Ages. Drawn from the vast repertoire of Mediterranean music, these songs are dedicated to the Virgin Mary and remind us of the unifying spirit underlying diverse traditions. Missa Mystica revives some of the period's most beautiful manuscripts, including the Cantigas de Santa Maria, Syrian and Byzantine hymns, and lamentations to the Virgin.
