THE MEDITERRANEAN MYSTIQUE
The Mediterranean has long been a fertile ground for the exchange of ideas, beliefs and inspirations. From these rich sacred and mystical traditions - Byzantine, Syriac, Persian, Arab and Iberian - Constantinople will draw its inspiration for its inaugural concert of the 2009-2010 season. For the occasion, Constantinople will join forces with its long-time partner, the Greek ensemble EnChordais, along with the renowned specialist in Syriac song, Noma Omran, who will be making her first appearance in Canada. Many of the songs are derived from manuscripts from the 14th to 17th centuries, written in such ancient languages as Aramaic and ancient Greek.
