Contemporary Iran has a vibrant art scene and this exhibition showcases a remarkable work by one of Iran's leading artists, Khosrow Hassanzadeh (b.1963), recently acquired by The British Museum.
The centrepiece of the show is a large assemblage portrait of Gholamreza Takhti (1930-1968), one of the country's national heroes, renowned for his Olympic medals for wrestling and for his social activism. He is an icon for today in the tradition of Iranian cultural heroes going back to the legendary stories of the Shahnameh (Book of Kings) circa 1000 AD.
