Description:
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Voice Awards program honors community leaders in recovery from mental and/or substance use disorders who play a vital role in raising awareness and understanding of behavioral health disorders. The awards also recognize television and film writers and producers who give a voice to people with behavioral health disorders by incorporating dignified, respectful, and accurate portrayals of these individuals into their productions.
Hosted by Dr. Mehmet Oz of “The Dr. Oz Show,” the 2016 Voice Awards will highlight the theme “Strengthening Families through Hope and Help.” The Voice Awards event will recognize family members—along with their loved ones with mental illness and/or substance use disorders—who have embraced and promoted family support in all aspects of prevention, treatment and recovery. The event also will highlight television and film productions that portray the positive impact that family members can have on their loved one’s path to recovery.
