The Alchemy of Woman presents Mari Sandoval's Flamenco Dance Theater and Carolyn Krueger's Gulistan Dance Theater in a celebration of women and dance from Uzbekistan to Spain, featuring writings of Langston Hughes (1902-1967) and Federico Garcia Lorca (1898-1936). Langston and Lorca were artistically involved in the worlds of women and dance--Hughes in Uzbekistan and Lorca in Spain. Though these contemporaries never met, they were connected upon Hughes' arrival in Spain when he was given a copy of the late Lorca's collection of poems, the Romancero Gitano (Gypsy Ballads). Hughes later published English translations of Lorca's two masterpieces, the Romancero Gitano and Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding).
