Join us for a journey through Iran in words and images, a visual feast that captures the spirit of ancient traditions in a modern context and blends lavish visual creations with a solid historical background in Persian culture and traditions - including poetry, literature, music, art and folklore.
SOFREH: The Art of Persian Celebration presents an illustrated lecture by Dr. Touraj Daryaee, Director, Samuel M. Jordan Center for Persian Studies, UC Irvine on sofreh, the artful and often highly elaborate arrangement of flowers, condiments, and objects of spiritual or cultural importance displayed at Persian ceremonies, such as the Persian New Year (Nowruz) and the Persian Marriage (AQD). Dr. Daryaee will be joined by Maryam Khosrowshahi, co-author SOFREH: The Art of Persian Celebration (in collaboration with Dr. Willem Floor and Parviz Tanavoli). The lecture will be followed by a book-signing and reception.
