In commemoration of International Women’s Day, join human rights lawyer Dr. Shirin Ebadi, the first Muslim woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. In conversation with Reza Aslan, author of No god but God and Zealot, Dr. Ebadi will share her personal story of courage and resilience, spending decades defending women and children against a brutal regime in Iran.
In her new book, Until We Are Free: My Fight for Human Rights in Iran, Dr. Ebadi describes her experience of intimidation and harassment by the Islamic Republic. Although the Iranian government took nearly everything from her—her marriage, her friends, her colleagues, her home, her legal career, even her Nobel Prize—they couldn’t steal her spirit to fight for justice.
According to Aslan, Dr. Ebadi is “quite simply the most vital voice for freedom and human rights in Iran.” Be inspired by this story of a woman who never gave up, no matter what the risks.
Books available for purchase. A Q&A and book signing follow the program.
