Lecture topic: Cyrus the Great: Conqueror, Father and Messiah
Touraj Daryaee considers the history and importance of Cyrus the Great (c. 550–529 B.C.), a king of Persia who founded the Achaemenian Empire, the world's first empire. This lecture uses visual materials to examine Cyrus's conquests, his interaction with different peoples and religions, and how Cyrus was remembered by the inhabitants of the lands he conquered.
A screening of Recreating Pasargadae: Cyrus the Great’s Paradise follows the lecture. The film by award-winning documentarian and educational film producer and director Farzin Rezaeian presents for the first time a glimpse into Cyrus’s palaces and gardens at Pasargadae, comprehensively reconstructed through modern digital high-resolution imagery and state-of-the-art computer and visual media.
