Despite all efforts by the authorities in Iran to portray the ongoing social unrest as a dangerous counterrevolution, “the Green Movement” continues to stand firm and attract supporters and sympathizers from all sectors of society. Some argue that this movement is a Civil Rights Movement and aims to change the government of Iran through peaceful means; others consider the movement as another revolution in the making for the regime change. To clarify some of these issues on February 6, 2010 several Iranian scholars and experts are going to participate in a panel to share their ideas with you by having an in-depth analytical review of these two great social upheavals. Many important aspects of these movements and in particular the role of women in the formation of the ongoing social unrest as an original, innovative, and inspiring movement on the construction of democracy will be discussed. “The 1979 Revolution” and “The Green Movement” A Comparative Panel Discussion Speakers: Dr. Akbar Mahdi, Omid Memarian, Dr. Nayereh Tohidi.
