The Third String is the story of Tanbour, one of Iran’s traditional instruments, which Pierre has purchased one from maker and player Abdul Reza Rahnama.

Peiman Zekavat
Peiman Zekavat was born in 1981 and study film in London and soon after completing his university degree, he began working in film industry as a camera assistant in various productions, from commercial to feature films. He then progressed on to filmmaking and has since directed numerous short films and documentaries in England, Canada and Iran. In 2009 he shot his first feature documentary “The Third String” based on a TV pilot concept.
Abdul Reza Rahnama
Abdul Reza Rahnama was born in 1963 in the Iran’s of Kurdistan. Introduced to music at the age of 2 years in his mother's family, he devoted himself to Tanbour and become the pupil of the great Sufi master, Shah Seyed Ebrahimi Amrollah of Kermanshah.
In the 90s, he toured worldwide with Sharam Nazeri and participated in numerous recordings, and in 1991 he performed at the Theatre de la Ville in Paris. Today he plays his own compositions and leads a traditional ensemble.
In his own studio instrument factory, he committed himself to research on instruments of Tar, Setar and Tanbour, which he makes himself and sells it to the command in the world.
Asadollah Gahvareh
Gahvareh’s family have been engaged in this profession for generations, and volume of demand has caused Tanbour making to an industry for the Gahvareh’s family. Asadollah also has outstanding reputation as maker and Tanbours that has his signature hot stamped on are highly valuable in terms of their unique sound.
Taher Yar Vaisy
Taher Yar Vaisy was born in 1941 in Gahvareh. He introduced to Tanbour from age of 10. From the same age he trained to sing Tanbour’s notes. He is one of the few who are still loyal to instrument’s originality. He sings and pays in the same method of his ancestors. His dominance on all the details and secrets of this instrument made him an iconic figure as singer and player. During 2000 he played in Germany and Tajikistan.
Their journey leads to first interviews given by some of Tanbour's high profile figures like Asadolah Gahvareh and Taher Yar Veysi.
