As the power of Arabs over Iran faded, a series of autonomous Iranian dynasties – Tahirids, Saffarids and Samanids – emerged in the Greater Khorasan (eastern provinces) of the caliphate.
The focus of this symposium will be on ideas of kingship, authority and identity and their articulation through the written word, architecture and the visual arts.
