Iran is producing some of the most interesting alternative and underground music in the Middle East.
As part of the special two-day conference 'Thirty Years On', SOAS are holding a night of live music featuring some of the best alternative, underground bands from Iran.
SIMORGH:
By far the most alternative and original band to come out of Iran, Simorgh combine different genres and playing styles to create a blend of traditional Iranian music, electronic atmospheric music, taking motifs and ornamentations from other genres such as Rock and Urban music. Having played many sold out gigs in London, Simorgh's live shows always end with the unanimous cries of 'encore'.

A five piece Indie band formed in Tehran and winners of Newsnight's Music awards in 2009, this will be Font's first official gig outside of Iran. This tight quartet of keyboard, bass, drums and vocals combine to produce a vivacious live act recalling the best days of British indie and guitar pop.
