Loosely based on the Greek myth, this production, both poignant and funny, explores the complexities of power through the relationship between a father and his son.
Trapped in a labyrinth and desperate to escape, Daedalus decides to build a flying machine. Rebellious Icarus believes he cannot go on, yet Daedalus wields authority over him, forcing him to help construct the machine and make their dream of escape a reality. Triumphantly, they fly away. But there is danger in their newfound freedom and a series of adventures follows with ultimately destructive consequences.
Daedalus & Icarus is the second production by Mungu Theatre Company, following Waiting for Godot, in 2004. Homayun Ghanizadeh's approach to theatre embraces playful sets and a highly energetic and comic acting style.
