The Circle begins with a black screen and the cries of a woman giving birth in a maternity ward. The newborn child is a baby girl, the grandmother moans 'the in-laws will be furious. They'll insist on divorce'. From day one, in other words, being female in a patriarchal theocracy like Iran marks you out as an inferior citizen.
This screening will be presented by the Womens' Action Network and will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with invited guests.
