Our March Women's Circle will be led by the wonderful Roshi Nasehi with Iranian & Traditional Women's Songs.
Born in Wales to Iranian parents, Roshi is a singer, composer and sound artist with a strong background in performance, recording, collaboration and workshops. Her records have received significant airplay (Radio 3, 6 Music, RTE) and widespread critical acclaim including twice record of the month in Mixmag who described her as "one of the most singular voices working at the moment". She has received commissions from, among others, the Museum Of London, Radio 3, So&So Circus Theatre, the Southbank WOW festival and the British Council for whom she created and presented major public Sound Art pieces in Kuwait in May 2014. Singing and reminiscence play a big part in the participatory arts projects she has worked on and some of her favorites have involved working with groups of women. Song Vessel in particular, 2013/2014 at the Jaganari Women's centre in Whitechapel where, in collaboration with artist Julie Myers, she worked with Bangladeshi women encouraging them to recall and record childhood songs for their babies and grandparents.
Roshi is delighted to be at the yurt to share some of the Iranian songs she grew up with along with traditional women's songs from different parts of the world.
