March 23rd we celebrate Persian New Year at the National Portrait Gallery. Music, film and talks. The screening is a ‘self-portrait in film’ by Jafar Panahi the ‘illegally-made’ This Is Not a Film. In order to get this to us, Panahi smuggled the film out of Iran inside a cake. The screening is free, arrive in good time for a seat (7pm). Before that we’ll have a talk on the origins and meaning of Norooz upstairs in the gallery, followed by a DJ set charting Iranian music from 20s through to today
