The story follows Maahi, a young adult in rural Iran, and her forbidden love with someone of “lower” social standards. The movie touches upon race and class issues delicately, something done very seldom in Iranian movies. At first glance, “Heiran” seems to be an ordinary tale of youth naiveté, yet upon further investigation, the movie unravels complex layers of social and cultural commentary.
