Under the Skin of the City (2001, running time 92 minutes)
The film deals with Tuba, a mother of four, who is faced with unexpected challenges that threaten her family and way of life. She works in a textile factory, returning home every night to deal with the rest of her problematic family, which includes: a pregnant daughter whose husband beats her regularly, a teenage son with a burgeoning career in radical politics, and an older son who goes to great lengths to get an engineering job in Japan as a means of getting out of Iran. When the older son's travel plans fall apart, Tuba is forced to take drastic measures to save their home and her son.

Film director and screenwriter Rakhshan Bani-Etemad was born in 1954 in Tehran. She has a BA in film directing and began her career as a documentary filmmaker for Iranian TV. She made her first feature film Off the Limits in 1987. Her films have won many international awards. She has served as the member of jury in several international film festivals and is now considered one of the best Iranian directors.
