There are no borders between east and west in the eclectic music of The Tehran Project , an ensemble celebrated for its distinctive and virtuosic style fusing Persian classical music with elements of jazz, Indian, flamenco, and Western classical music.
The Tehran Project features Linling Hsu (violin) and Iranian-born pupil of Ravi Shankar, Amir Amiri (santur). Special guests include jazz legend Bennie Maupin (bass clarinetist on Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew and director of The Ikeda Kings Orchestra); Munyungo Jackson (percussion); John Stetch (piano); and Edwin Livingston (bass).
Balancing tradition and innovation, The Tehran Project has gained international recognition for its contributions to the world music scene. Expressing Persian music traditions in a contemporary, cross-cultural, and improvisatory musical style, The Tehran Project seeks to communicate the mysticism of Persian music, engage a diverse audience, and bring understanding and awareness to the culture and arts of Iran.
