Parvaz Homay
Born in 1980, is an Iranian composer , lyricist, vocalist, and performer specializing in Persian classical-style music. He is the founder and leader of the highly acclaimed Classical Musical Ensemble Mastan.
Homay was born in a small village in Gilan , a province located in North-west portion of Iran, bordering the Caspian sea . From the age of seven, Homay began honing his musical and artistic talents. He wrote his first work of serious poetry at nine years old.
As a child, Homay began pursuing his dream of becoming a professional performer and classical Persian singer, and did so by focusing all his energy on developing his artistic and musical talents.
He received his formal education in art and pursued his degree from The Conservatory of Music in Tehran. Homay studied Persian poetry with Iran's most notable poets.
Homay & the Mastan Ensemble enjoyed instant success after the release of their album entitled "Molaghaat Ba Doozakhian," or "Meeting with inmates of Hell", which was written, composed, and sung solely by Homay. This album was performed in over 50 separate venues throughout Iran, Europe and the United States, exceeding over 100,000 in ticket sales. Homay was able to introduce formal and traditional classical Persian music to a new generation. CDs and DVDs were duplicated by the thousands and quickly spread across international boundaries to fulfill the increasing demand.
Last year, Homay dazzled the audiences with his operetta, Moses and the Shepherd, accompanied by a symphony orchestra. The work was inspired by Rumi’s poem of the same name and based on an alternative reading by Dr. Mahmoodi Bakhtiari in his book, Aarefan-e Raaz. Homay has created another operetta entitled "Eshgh, Ensan, Aghl" meaning "love, man, mind" which he will be performing in 2012.
Following sold-out performances in Europe which covered 19 cities, Homay & the Mastan Ensemble come to North America with their soul-stirring SARBAZAN, a theme reflecting the nobility of the true and faithful in Iran and inspiring awareness, compassion and transformation.
During this tour Homay and the ensemble will perform a couple of songs which prepare the way for their 2011 tour aimed at raising awareness regarding the preservation of the environment and the wild life, a subject very dear to Homay's heart. Homay has travelled to different parts of the world witnessing the interaction of natives of every land with other creatures in their environment. His travels have taken him to the jungles of Gilan, South Africa continuing on to the Amazon, India and so on. Having drawn inspiration from those precious experiences Homay has created exhilarating and deeply moving music.
